Pharmaceutical Processing
CUPERTINO, Ca. — August 29, 2006: SPS introduces a new level of anti-tamper, and counterfeit protection for
Pharmaceutical product caps to compliment their patented RFID Identification System for Pharmaceutical vials.
Based on SPS’ original concept, this new cap goes a number of steps forward in product security and cosmetic
appeal as it provides both the pharmaceutical companies and their patients a high level of assurance against
product counterfeiting, and tampering, while at the same time allowing for fast simple access to the medications.

MLSP™ (Multi Level Security Protection™) is a unique set of Patent Pending anti-tamper/anti-counterfeiting features
that can be added in virtually any combination to any standard or custom-fit Pharmaceutical application.

Vials, bottles, tubes, pouches, blister packs or custom designed packaging can now foil counterfeiting and
tampering attempts by applying the use of:

·        High temperature FDA approved Intelligent Polymers™ that maintain shape and seal integrity at temperatures
that far exceed autoclave and shipping conditions

·        Multi-latch closures that replace contaminating aluminum vial crimps and actually provide a tighter grip, further
resisting tampering attempts

·        “Cap In Cap”™ designs, assure product integrity by requiring that the outside cap (containing the protective
RFID) be first twisted-off thus, destroying the RFID antenna, before the vial contents can be accessed.

·        Molded-in Encrypted Digital Holograms, placed in the caps at the time they are injection molded, that cannot be
read or duplicated by counterfeiting agents but can store and be machine-read at up to 1 MB/sq mm

·        Temperature-indicating polymers, and Ink Jet printable thermo-chromic inks, that indicate tamper attempts
utilizing the most common thermal tamper techniques

·        Counterfeiting deterrents; company and product Logo’s or codes that are selective-pressure-embossed into
the sides of the cap that will disappear with the addition of thermal tampering above normal autoclave temperatures.

Designed as an alternative to the current crimped-on aluminum caps, the Intelligent Polymer snap-on caps offer
several manufacturing benefits including the ability to cap vials inside the class 100 clean room environment, right
after stoppering, with existing tooling, contamination free. The Intelligent Polymer construction provides a long term,
consistently strong, and reliable seal, while at the same time clearly indicating any attempts at product tampering.

The product line is currently available for industry standard 20 mm and 13 mm size vials and accommodates a wide
choice of RFID modules, according to the client/manufacturer's preferences and their supply chain constraints.

Next-up:  SPS plans to announce an expanded line of counterfeit deterrents such as ALRD  Analytical -Laser-Read-
Device  .5mm sq chips that can be built into product labels and can externally confirm product authenticity of sealed
vials.  Introduction is planned in late 2006-early 2007
